KL Rahul was withdrawn from Test XI midway through the last Australian tour in 2018-19.
KL Rahul has been named to the India test team for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar four-round test series against Australia later in the year. Rahul is joined by his test partner, Kuldeep Yadav, while closer Mohammed Siraj receives a call on an 18-member test team.
The Senior Selection Committee headed by Sunil Joshi has named 28 players who will perform in all three formats in Australia, a list that does not include the currently injured Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma. His progress, according to a BCCI press release, will continue to be monitored by a medical team. The biosecurity bubble in Australia will also include four additional bowlers: Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kartik Tyagi, Ishan Porel and T. Natarajan.

Varun Chakravarthy receives the T20I call; Dhawan, Hardik return
Mysterious Tamil Nadu and Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakaravarthy received his first call-up for the national team after being inducted into India’s T20I squad to face Australia days after claiming a five-fer against Delhi Capitals at the 2020 IPL. in progress.
Chakravarthy will be joined by Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan, who have forced their inclusion in the T20 dialogue due to their large number of IPL races. Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who limped out of the 2020 IPL with a leg injury, will not be part of the contingent traveling to Australia. The swing pitcher, who has been beset by injury issues since the start of 2018, had been included in the squad of over 50 for the series against South Africa, which was ultimately canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Shami, who rested for that series after the New Zealand tour, will take his place with Shardul Thakur as a backup option. Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw have been eliminated from the last ODI squad due to their lukewarm returns in the IPL and will also not appear in the T20I.
