The Indian Premier League (IPL) is back and so is the famous ‘Break the Beard Challenge’. This had become popular with cricketers in the previous season and this year, Mumbai Indians (MI) vice captain Kieron Pollard is the first player to take it.
Before his match against the Rajasthan Royals on October 6, Pollard decided to do a makeover. He shaved off a part of his beard and put a new French cut on his face. The off-road veteran credited his IM teammate and close friend Hardik Pandya for inspiration.
Before the RR crash, Pollard took to his Instagram account to reveal his new look. Furthermore, he passed the ball to Kolkata Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik and asked him to accept the challenge. He wrote: “Cheggit! New season, new Polly! Following the example of my brother @ hardikpandya93. #BreakTheBeard and Game ON! #MIvsKKR. @ dk00019 Ready? “
Here is the video where Polly surprised her fans with her new avatar:
The new look not only garnered praise from his fans and supporters, it also played a factor of luck for Pollard, as the Mumbai Indians defeated the Rajasthan Royal by 57 runs. Pollard didn’t hit, but he did pick up a wicket while bowling.
SuryaKumar Yadav was the star of the game who stole the show with his first fifty this season. Batting first, the Mumbai Indians posted a whopping 193/4 total where Suryakumar contributed an inning of 79 undefeated runs.
In response, the Rajsthan Royals fell as none of their hitters except Jos Buttler (70) could withstand the IM attack. The Speedster Jaspreet Bumrah collected 4 wickets in his spell and helped defeat RR by 57 runs.
