Kia Sonet vs Tata Nexon vs Hyundai Venue compact SUV [Video]

Kia Motors India recently launched the new Sonet under 4 meter compact SUV. It is one of the most feature-rich vehicles in the segment and competes with cars like the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, and Ford EcoSport in the segment. Here we have a video showing a detailed comparison between the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet to see which one is better in terms of driving, comfort, features and space on offer.

The video has been uploaded by PITSTOP on their YouTube channel. The video simply compares the compact SUV in the under 4 meter segment to see which one offers what. Both the Nexon and Sonet used in the video have a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine. According to the video, the Nexon feels a bit more mature and SUV compared to the Sonet. The Kia Sonet comes with many features like front parking sensors, all LED headlights, projector fog lights in the front. The Nexon, on the other hand, doesn’t get either of those and comes with standard projector-style headlights with LED DRLs.

In terms of dimensions, the Kia Sonet is taller but the Nexon is wider, which translates into more space inside the cabin. The Sonet has diamond-cut alloy wheels, while the Nexon has sporty-looking alloy wheels. In terms of appearance, the video host feels that Nexon is better.

Moving inside the cockpit, Sonet is definitely the winner here. It comes with a host of features like the largest 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display in the segment, UVO connection features, ventilated seats, air purifier, power sunroof, wireless charging, etc. The Nexon, on the other hand, has a simple-looking dash with an infotainment touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, multi-function steering wheel, power sunroof, and rear air vents.

When it comes to interior space, the Kia Sonet feels a bit cramped on the inside. It can easily accommodate 4 passengers but if a fifth comes in it would be a bit difficult to accommodate. This is mainly because the Sonet is less wide compared to the Nexon. Tata Nexon, on the other hand, easily seats 5 people.

As for driving, the presenter was driving the 6-speed diesel automatic version of the Sonet. Sonet is the only car in the segment to offer such a transmission with a diesel engine. It feels very powerful and had enough power in reserve. The car felt stable at higher speeds and was very comfortable to drive both in the city and on the highways. Nexon, on the other hand, was a diesel manual. It seems like the presenter has a soft spot for Nexon and can be seen talking a lot about Nexon himself. Nexon is also quite a good car to drive and personally likes the manual gear changes and long gear ratios of the diesel Nexon.

In short, the Nexon has more room inside, but Sonet offers the best boot space in the segment. Sonet looks more modern and has many features on offer. Overall, both cars had their positives and negatives and the Kia Sonet, being the latest entrant in the segment, definitely has the upper hand in terms of features and styling.
