A day after leaving Congress and joining the BJP, Khushbu Sundar criticized his former party saying that he does not want an intelligent woman and that there is no freedom to speak the truth within Congress.
Sundar, who was the national spokesperson for Congress, said the party was dictating terms and cracking down on her, according to an NDTV report. On Monday Congress dismissed her as spokesperson with immediate effect and minutes later published a resignation letter in which she said “forced to fire the party” for the “bad treatment” of the party elders.
When Sundar arrived at the Chennai airport on Tuesday, he described the party as “mentally retarded,” citing comments from leaders of the state Congress.
“I was loyal to Congress. But Congress disrespected me … They (Congress) don’t want an intelligent woman. To say that they saw me only as an actress shows the cheap thoughts of Congress,” he said. .
On Monday, Sundar had said: “To move a country forward, we need a leader like Narendra Modi. I will do my best to contribute to the state and I am sure that we will win the state assembly elections.”
A visible critic of BJP and RSS on social media, Sundar was recently seen endorsing the Center’s new National Education Policy, drawing the ire of Congress and accused of indiscipline. He later apologized to the party’s leader, Rahul Gandhi, for his contrary views.
A veteran of more than 200 movies, soap operas, and television shows, Sundar was with DMK from 2010 to 2014, which ruled Tamil Nadu at the time. After a break with the party leadership, she went to Congress in 2014. The actress-turned-politician also campaigned for AIADMK between 2001 and 2004. As an actress, she has built a temple in her name.
