Kerala Local Bodies Polls: LDF Looks Ready to Repeat its 2015 Performance | India News

NEW DELHI: In a big boost for Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the PCM-led Democratic Left Front (LDF), although it overcame a number of controversies, was able to outperform the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Frente United Democratic led by the BJP National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Kerala local body elections.
Based on the latest trends, the UDF has been able to improve its 2015 count and has narrowed the gap with the LDF. Similarly, the BJP also managed to perform slightly better in the three-tier structure, but fell far short of its expectations as it expected to rule the Thiruvananthapuram corporation. There are still a few rounds of counting.
Of the 941 gram panchayats, the LDF is far ahead at 515, while the UDF leads at 376, the NDA at 28 and others at 22.

In 2015, the Left Front was able to secure 549 seats, while the congressional-led alliance had won 365 seats. The BJP-led NDA made inroads into the southern Indian state by securing victory on 14 seats. The other 13 seats were secured by the Others.
In Block Panchayats, UDF (44) is behind LDF (108). Of the 14 district panchayats, the LDF has established a clear victory in 10 to four of the UDF. By 2015, the LDF had won 90 seats, while the UDF was able to win 61 seats.

Of the six corporations, LDF was able to sail comfortably in Kollam, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram. At Thrissur Corporation, the LDF leads in 23 seats, while the UDF in 20 seats and the NDA retained 6 districts that it won last time. In 2015, the LDF won four corporations, while the UDF won two.
In the municipalities, the UDF leads in 45, the LDF in 35 while the BJP leads in two. In 2015, the BJP had won just one seat. The UDF was able to secure victory in 41 seats compared to the LDF’s 44.
Voting in three phases, according to the strict Covid-19 protocol, was carried out in a total of 21,893 districts in 1,200 local autonomous bodies, including six corporations, 941 village panchayats, 14 district panchayats and 87 municipalities on 8, 10 and December 14.
