Coronavirus shutdown in Delhi? In another appeal to traders in the national capital, Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday that the government is not planning another crown blockade. After meeting with representatives of the market associations, Kejriwal said that no trader in Delhi should be afraid of a new rule or rumors about the closure. In an attempt to allay fears about the new regulation regarding the mask fine, Kejriwal said merchants must have replacement face covers to avoid the 2,000 rupee fine. This is the third case in which the Delhi government has contacted the community about rumors of closure.

Market associations have assured the Delhi government that free masks will be provided to traders. Merchants are encouraged to have replacement masks and hand sanitizers in their stores. Kejriwal said once again that he did not “wish to close” any markets in the national capital. Since Diwali, there have been several reports that suggested the Delhi government was planning to close the markets due to the sharp increase in coronavirus cases. Several markets have been designated as new corona hot spots.

Traders say they have already faced a heartbreaking moment due to the pandemic. In such a situation, the festive season has helped to reactivate demand and get business on track. If the government closes the markets, it will completely destroy any hope of reviving economic activities.

In a related development, Delhi’s health minister Satyendar Jain has said that the government will conduct a new survey in the buffer zones to understand the trajectory of the new peak. He also seemed hopeful regarding the fight against the pandemic. He said that since the positivity rate has dropped, it would lead to fewer Covid-19 infections in the near future.
