Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday criticized his Punjab counterpart Captain Amarinder Singh, saying he had always supported farmers. Singh had said on Sunday that Kejriwal was “exploiting” the ongoing agitation of farmers after the Delhi CM announced that it would fast in support of the ongoing protest.
“Captain, I have supported the farmers from the beginning. I did not let the Delhi Stadium become a prison, I fought the Center. I am serving the farmers by serving them. You made a deal with the Center to get ED’s case. of his forgiven son, sold the farmers movement? Why? “Kejriwal said in a tweet.
Kejriwal on Sunday called on the BJP-run Center to avoid “arrogance” and remove three farm laws as demanded by agitators farmers, and to introduce a bill to guarantee the minimum subsistence price (MSP) for agricultural products. He said he would do a one-day fast on Monday in response to a call from agitated farmers and urged his volunteers from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as well as the people of the country to join.
“Fasting is sacred. Wherever you are, fast for our fellow farmers. Pray to God for the success of their struggle. In the end, the farmers will definitely win,” he said in a tweet Monday.
In a virtual press conference, the prime minister had previously said that the Center should immediately accept all the demands of the farmers who have been protesting on the Delhi borders for the past two weeks.
Enacted in September, the three agricultural laws have been projected by the central government as major reforms in the agricultural sector that will eliminate middlemen and allow farmers to sell anywhere in the country. However, protesting farmers have expressed fear that the new laws would pave the way for removing the MSP’s safety cushion and ending the mandi system, leaving them at the mercy of large corporations.
Shortly after Kejriwal’s announcement, Singh attacked his Delhi counterpart, saying he was trying “to promote his party’s petty electoral agenda with blatant lies and blatantly false propaganda” through agitation by farmers.
In stark contrast to the Kejriwal government in Delhi, which had prospered on crumbs from corporate houses, the Punjab government had not signed any deals with Adani Power and was not even aware of private actors bidding for the purchase of energy in the state, “said Singh., in a strong reaction to the latest AAP campaign in Punjab.
“In fact, it was the Kejriwal government that blatantly notified one of the black farm laws on November 23, at a time when farmers were preparing to march to Delhi to protest against these same farm laws,” said Amarinder Singh. “And now they are giving themselves to the theater by announcing that they will be ready to support the farmers’ hunger strike on Monday,” he added.
