Kejriwal is a ‘new chameleon’, says Meenakshi Lekhi after CM tore copies of farm bills

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Meenakshi Lekhi on Thursday criticized Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejirwal for breaking the Center’s three agricultural bills in the one-day session of the Delhi Assembly.

Lekhi noted that the three farm laws had been published in the Delhi Gazette on November 23 and that they were tearing up copies of the law after notification. She called Kejriwal the ‘new chameleon’ who can ‘just change color without qualms’.

“The three agricultural laws of the Center were notified in the Delhi Gazette on 23 November. Now, they are breaking copies of the same law in the Delhi Assembly after notifying. This is opportunistic policy. Delhi CM is the new chameleon, it can change color without hesitation, “he said.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had torn copies of the three agricultural laws in the one-day session of the Delhi Assembly on Thursday in protest against the controversial legislation. He accused the BJP of ensuring the financing of their elections through laws rather than thinking about the well-being of farmers.

“What was the rush to get the farm bills passed in Parliament during the pandemic? It has happened for the first time that three laws were passed without a vote in Rajya Sabha, even as several members opposed the measure … In the last 6-7 years, the BJP has made elections more expensive. So much of the money is spent on elections (by political parties). These laws have not been passed for farmers. These laws have been made to ensure funding for the elections for the BJP, ”he told members of the chamber.

The assembly approved a resolution presented by Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot, demanding that the central government repeal the laws immediately.

The national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also accused the nation’s ruling party of asking the party’s great leaders to convince the farmers, saying that the farmers were not the wrong ones, but the leaders and supporters of the BJP.

Kejriwal even urged the Center not to be worse than the British. “How many sacrifices will farmers have to make to have their voices heard? Today, the Delhi Assembly rejects the three agricultural laws and calls on the central government to withdraw the laws. I ask the Center not to be worse than the British, ”he said.

Dozens of farmers have been protesting the three controversial farm laws introduced by the Center for days and talks between representatives of the two have resulted in a stalemate. The Center is willing to change the laws, but the majority of protesting farmers want a complete pushback.
