New Delhi: On Saturday, the central government ‘urged’ Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to focus on breaking the chain of transmission of Covid-19 and keeping mortality below 1%.

“The Ministry of Health has been collaborating regularly with states and UTs that have been showing a sudden increase in COVID cases, a large number of cases or reporting increased mortality in some districts. The Center today urged the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to focus on taking vigorous measures to break the chain of transmission and ensure mortality remains below 1%. States have been advised to proactively ensure increased testing, management effective clinic to reduce mortality and save lives, together with effective monitoring at various levels, ”said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in an official statement.

Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka account for approximately 46% of active cases reported nationally in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra alone accounts for 22% of all active cases reported in the last 24 hours.

Similarly, these three states account for 52% of all reported Covid-19 deaths nationwide in the past 24 hours. Maharashtra alone accounted for 35% of all deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.

The Union Ministry of the Interior also highlighted the districts of interest in each state. In Maharashtra, Pune, Nagpur, Kolhapur, Sangli, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Raigad, Jalgaon, Solapur, Satara and Palghar were highlighted and the need for effective containment and contact tracing was emphasized.

In Andhra Pradesh, Prakasam and Chittoor were highlighted as districts of concern and focused on the need for daily monitoring of wise deaths in facilities, strengthening of hospital facilities, increasing the number of ICUs, oxygen beds and a efficient clinical management.

In Karnataka, the prominent districts of Koppal, Mysuru, Davangere and Bellari were recommended to make optimal use of RT-PCR testing facilities, to strengthen their active door-to-door case finding and to protect their healthcare workers. .

In cumulative terms, five states represent more than 60% of the total active cases in the country. Maharashtra contributes the most to the number of active cases amounting to almost 25%, followed by Andhra Pradesh (12.06%), Karnataka (11.71%), Uttar Pradesh (6.92%) and Tamil Nadu, which is stands at 6.10%.

Of these, three states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka account for almost 49% of active cases and more than 57% of deaths from Covid-19.
