Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday urged Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to speed up the process of establishing five more airports in Telangana state.
Rao met with the minister in New Delhi and handed him a letter seeking to speed up the process for the establishment of the airports. In his letter, he stated: “He had asked the Prime Minister immediately after the formation of Telangana in 2014 to establish five more airports in the state, as he only has one in Hyderabad.”
Rao informed the Union Minister that the Telangana state government has started the process to create additional national airports and based on discussions with the President of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), a formal proposal was submitted. in 2018 for the AAI to submit feasibility reports. .
It was indicated that initially only low-cost airports will be developed for small aircraft, and later they could be expanded for commercial operations based on demand.
The identified areas were Basantnagar in the Peddapalli district, Mamnoor in the Warangal urban district, Adilabad district, Jakranpally in the Nizamabad district, Devarkadra in the Mahbubnagar district, and the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district.
He informed Puri that although AAI has already conducted the obstacle limitation surface study (OLS), soil testing and other investigations at the sites and some preliminary reports have come in recently, final reports have yet to be given.
He sought out the Union minister to ensure collaboration with the state government to finalize the sites and obtain all legal clearances on a one-stop-shop basis so that the state government can begin infrastructure work to begin Operator Permit No operations. Scheduled (NSOP) with its own funds.
