The next decision to reopen will be made in the third week of December after the State’s technical advisory committee meets again.
Schools and colleges will not reopen in Karnataka in December.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday after a meeting with Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education S. Suresh Kumar said that the department had made this decision in the interest of students.
He said that the next decision to reopen will be made in the third week of December, after the state’s technical advisory committee meets again. Mr. Kumar also said that the Vidyagama program, in which teachers would visit neighborhoods of public school students and teach classes, would also not take place. This program was halted in October after it was reported that students who had attended these classes had contracted the virus.
However, Kumar ruled out announcing a zero academic year, saying that teaching and learning would take place through other means. “Teachers are giving lessons on YouTube, WhatsApp and other online media. This will continue, ”he said. In addition to these, televised classes on DD Chandana are being held.
The COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee recommended not to reopen schools in December. The committee led by MK Sudarshan met on Sunday and concluded that it was not advisable to reopen schools in the state before COVID-19 cases were brought under control.
