This decision was made following a recommendation from the state technical advisory committee for Covid-19. “Since SSLC and II PU students will have board exams, we thought it was right to start classes for them,” said Minister of Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar.
The government has left the decision to send their pupils to schools at the discretion of parents. Parents must give written permission, in addition to certifying about their health.
“Attending classes in schools is not compulsory for students. They can choose to come to school or continue with continuous online classes, whichever they consider best. But the government will tell parents that offline classes are always a better option than online classes, ”said Suresh Kumar. As for the opening of classes for other classes, he said that the government will take a call after analyzing the situation after 15 days.
The government will also decide to reopen the shelters run by the departments of social welfare and backward classes. However, these students must take the Covid-19 test 72 hours before admission and submit the negative report.
Only 15 children are allowed in each class
Suresh Kumar said that all government schools and shelters will be disinfected before January 1. “We have entrusted this responsibility to the rural and urban development departments,” he said. In each class, only 15 students will be allowed to ensure social distancing.
The minister said the government will soon issue standard operating procedures for all schools. He added that Covid-19 tests will be performed only on those students with symptoms such as cough, cold and fever. But the masks will be mandatory for all students.
Study program reduced soon
Kumar said the revised school program, cut in light of the pandemic, will be released shortly. The department of public instruction had decided to reduce the curriculum by 30% because the academic year was interrupted. He said the revised curriculum was sent to the government for approval.
Previously, it was decided to delete chapters on Sangoli Rayanna, Kittur Chennamma, Jesus Christ, Prophet Mohammed, Tipu Sultan and others in class 6 and 7 social science textbooks. He reiterated that the decision to delete these chapters has been reversed and they will be part of the revised syllabus.
