Sira’s seat was vacated after the candidate of Janata Dal Secular B Satyaranarayana, a defender who won the 2018 elections, succumbed to a chronic illness on August 4.
RR Nagar’s seat was vacated in July 2019 after MLA Congress Munirathna Naidu, a wealthy civilian contractor and film producer, passed to the BJP to help the party rise to power. RR Nagar’s bypoll should have been held in December 2019, but was delayed due to a case of electoral fraud brought against Munirathna Naidu by her BJP rival in the 2018 elections.
For Sira’s seat, the BJP has put forward a new participant in the party, Dr. CM Rajesh Gowda, 47, a radiologist by profession and the son of a former congressional deputy, as its candidate. Gowda initially tried to get a ballot from Congress, but joined the BJP after it was rejected.
Congress has nominated six-time MLA veteran and former minister TB Jayachandra, 71, for Sira’s job. The JDS has sent Ammajamma Satyanarayana, 61 the widow of former JDS MLA B Satyanarayana.
In RR Nagar’s post, the BJP has deployed Munirathna Naidu, while the Congress has deployed H Kusuma, 31, a political novice who was the wife of IAS officer DK Ravi who died in 2015. Kusuma is the daughter of JDS leader Hanumantharayappa.
The JDS has sent a local leader, V Krishnamurthy, 41 years old.
