The Karnataka government has decided to reopen all medical colleges affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in the state as of December 1. RGUHS-affiliated medical, dental, AYUSH, paramedical, nursing and pharmacy colleges would reopen beginning next month following government-issued SOPs.
Dr. Sudhakar K, Karnataka’s Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education announced the date on Twitter. He wrote: “The Karnataka government has decided to reopen all medical, dental, AYUSH, paramedic, nursing and pharmacy schools affiliated with RGUHS since 1 December. I request that the administration of universities and students 2 strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the government. “
The Minister has urged the Governing Councils of schools and students to comply with the guidelines already published.
The higher education department has formulated SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) in accordance with UGC guidelines. Senior Vice Minister Dr. CN Ashwatha Narayana said Monday that the SOP has separate notices set out for seniors and classes will be held accordingly. Also, there are separate notices for students from freshmen and sophomores of the courses.
SOPs include maintaining social distancing taking into account the total number of students and the total number of available classrooms, as per the health department guidelines and these warnings. The use of masks and disinfectants is mandatory for students who will attend physical classes.
Meanwhile, other universities in the state would reopen after Diwali starting Nov. 17 ahead. Graduate, engineering and diploma colleges will open next week. Students will need to come before classes resume and register themselves. Depending on the number of students attending, the strength of the class and batches will be decided. Students will need parental consent to attend physical classes.
