Karnataka: Rajya Sabha Deputy Ashok Gasti passes away

Karnataka’s first Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Gasti, who was admitted to a private hospital in Bangalore after testing positive for Covid-19, passed away on Thursday. He was 55 years old.

In a statement, Manipal Hospital stated: “Ashok Gasti, Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha, who was admitted to Manipal Hospital, Old Airport Road on September 2, diagnosed with severe COVID-19 pneumonia, passed away at 10:31 PM” .

Hospital Director Dr. Manish Rai explained: “I was seriously ill with multi-organ failure in the life support system in the intensive care unit under constant observation by our panel of medical experts.”

According to party sources close to the leader, Gasti had developed a fever on August 31, after which he was admitted to the Raichur District Hospital. “As his breathing problems worsened, he was transferred to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru on September 2, where he was put on oxygen support when his saturation levels dropped. He was then transferred to respiratory assistance as his health worsened in the following days. “

Gasti, a lawyer by profession and former general secretary of the BJP Other Backclass Cell (OBC), was also Chairman of the Backward Class Development Corporation in Karnataka.

Known for his work at the booth level, Gasti, who hails from Raichur in northern Karnataka, was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha MP on July 22.
