A statement issued by the excise department said the government has considered demands from hotel, bar and restaurant and club owners to help them liquidate old stocks by allowing them to sell beer and Indian-made spirits (IML) for a week. between 9am and 7pm.

However, officials said they will not be allowed to sell if they are within the containment zones. Like liquor retailers, bar and pub owners or club secretaries are mandated to ensure standards of social distancing at points of sale.
The excise department has allowed independent wine boutiques located outside the containment areas to sell alcoholic beverages since May 4.
Liquor sales on Friday in Karnataka registered a further drop as retail outlets were able to sell liquor worth Rs 131 crore. Sales began to drop after Karnataka raised the additional excise tax by 25-31% on Thursday. On Wednesday, liquor sales had created a one-day record of Rs 232 crore followed by Rs 165 crore on Thursday.
