Karnataka imposes nightly curfew from 10 pm to 6 am until January 2


One day after ruling out the imposition of the night curfew, Chief Minister of Karnataka, BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday he made a ‘U’ turn and announced a night curfew – between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. – until January 2.

With this, Karnataka is the second state after Maharashtra to announce a new set of restrictions amid global fears about the new strain of coronavirus discovered in the UK.

Speaking to reporters here, Yediyurappa said that in view of the new strain of coronavirus, it was decided to impose a night curfew from Wednesday to January 2, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

“I ask everyone to cooperate,” he said.

Family health and wellness Minister K.Sudhakar said the night curfew was imposed to prevent and contain the strain of coronavirus that was found in the UK.

“We are also monitoring international passengers arriving in the state, but there is no inter-state travel ban. Schools will reopen for Class 10 and Class 12 students as of January 1,” he clarified.

Responding to a question about whether Christmas celebrations will be exempt, the minister added that between December 23 and January 2, no festive events or celebrations are allowed after 10 p.m. “It applies to all kinds of events,” he said.
