The Karnataka government decided on Friday to reopen undergraduate and graduate universities across the state on November 17. The decision in this regard was made during a meeting called by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in Bengaluru on Friday.
After the meeting, Senior Deputy Minister CN Ashhwathnarayan said: “Offline classes will resume at engineering, graduate and degree colleges in the state starting November 17. However, students will be able to choose to attend learning sessions. online, offline or mixed while parents consent will be required for those who opt for offline mode. “

Ashwathnarayan, also Minister of Higher Education, added that practical classes will be prioritized to begin with. “The strength of the lots will be decided based on the previous registration. Working groups will be deployed to all universities to ensure that Covid-19 and related guidelines are in place and implemented, ”he added. He cited the consent of the University Scholarship Commission (UGC) to start classes as of November 1, backing the government’s decision taken amid the ongoing pandemic.
Furthermore, the government has decided to issue clear guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for conducting offline classes based on the response of students and other stakeholders in the system.
“While the working groups will be formed at each college, the assistant commissioners will lead the working groups at the district level to ensure smooth running of the classes,” added an official from the department of higher education.
Earlier on Friday, CM Yediyurappa had met with senior officials from higher education, health, transportation, social welfare, backward classes, finance departments in Bengaluru to discuss the same, in the wake of the ongoing pandemic situation in the state.
Ashwathnarayan also explained that several related decisions were also made during the meeting, to provide shelter and transportation facilities to students, complying with current Covid-19 guidelines.
