Bangalore:
Thousands of farmers in Karnataka, ruled by the BJP, joined this morning in the national protest against the new agricultural laws. His other complaint was against changes to the land acquisition law, which makes it easier for non-farmers to purchase agricultural land, and amendments to the APMC (Agricultural Products Market Committees) Law, which lists the rules for the acquisition of agricultural products.
The protests took place in several cities, including the state capital, Bengaluru. At noon, hundreds of farmers were seen demonstrating in front of City Hall. Others blocked roads in parts of the city until police told them to move.
“They are lying to the farmers. Narendra Modi is a liar and to put into practice what he says in this state, Yediyurappa is also repeating the lie. All of this is against the farmers,” said K Chandrashekhar, head of the Federation. of Karnataka Farmers.
However, the state strike they called was not a success. Eager to ensure that the situation remained normal, the state government had guaranteed strict road safety and the availability of transportation.
“One thing is very clear, both Narendra Modi and BS Yediyurappa are harmful to agriculture,” said Randeep Surjewala from Congress, who supports the farmers’ protest and strike.
“Farmers are agitating. This anti-farmer, anti-farm labor government continues to repress and devilishly repress the voice of the farmer. We are united with the farmer until the land reform bill and the APMC Law are withdrawn, our fight will continue “he added.
On Saturday, the president of the Karnataka Congress, DK Shivakumar, had strongly opposed the proposed amendments and attacked the ruling BJP, saying they want to keep farmers as “slaves”.
“Whole land has been taken from farmers. It is a very bad amendment that they have brought. They have tabled amendments to buy land from farmers. They want to keep farmers as slaves, so we oppose this tooth and nail,” added. Mr. Shivakumar had told NDTV.
The BJP has blamed Congress for the unrest. “Thanks to the support of the farmers, today I am sitting in this seat,” said Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
“Farmers are very educated now. They know what to do, what not to do … I will go through the state and meet all the farmers who do not trust the new laws and explain the issue to them,” he added.
The BJP has said that the three agricultural sector laws: the Agricultural Products Trade and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill 2020, the Farmers Agricultural Price Guarantee and Services Agreement (Empowerment and Protection) 2020 and the Commodity Bill (Amendment). – they are “historical reforms”. They also blame Congress, claiming the party is brainwashing farmers to keep its own interests intact.
Farmers and the opposition claim that the new laws, which allow them to sell products to companies anywhere in the country, expose them to exploitation by large companies. They also say that with the entry of private actors into the agricultural sector, they will not obtain even the Minimum Price of Support for their products.
