Karnataka CM signals the first RORO train between Bengaluru and Solapur of Maharashtra


Karnataka Prime Minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday marked the first Roll-On-Roll-Off (RORO) train between Bengaluru (Nelamangala) and Solapur in Maharashtra via videoconference.

Yediyurappa said that RORO is a hassle-free and environmentally friendly service.

“Roll-On-Roll-Off (RORO) service is straightforward, reduces road accidents, is environmentally friendly, and presents a win-win situation for truck operators and industries. Happy to mark the inaugural RORO train service between Bengaluru and Solapur. Best wishes to all interested parties, ”Yediyurappa said in a tweet.

South Western Railway in a tweet said: “Honorable MoSR, while addressing, said that it is the dream of the Hon’ble PM to extend multimodal connectivity that will boost commerce and reduce travel time.”

During the event were present the Minister of State for Railways of the Union, Suresh Angadi, the Minister of State Finance, R Ashoka, and senior railway officials.

A RORO train has wagons in which trucks and other vehicles can be loaded with goods.
