BENGALURÚ: Both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress in Karnataka on Wednesday he claimed major victories for his backed candidates in recent elections to more than 5,700 village panchayats, even as the vote count in the grassroots exercise was underway.
Elections, not held party symbols, 82,616 seats were held in 5,728 village panchayats in two phases on December 22 and 27 using ballots with a 78.58 percent voter turnout and counting resumed on Wednesday morning.
Electoral Commission of the State of Karnataka Officials said the count was at 226 centers at the Taluk headquarters by adhering to the strict Covid-19 protocol of mandatory use of face masks, social distancing and hand hygiene. “People supported the development and voted for the BJP-backed candidates,” Kateel said.
Siddaramaiah, in a series of tweets, claimed that the farmers taught the BJP a lesson.

Noting that this was a challenging time for Congress in the state, the former prime minister expressed apprehension that the BJP could lure its winning candidates to change.
The JD (S) has not yet made any statement on the result of the survey.
