All shops and commercial establishments employing ten or more people in Karnataka can now operate 24×7 every day of the year, the state government said on Saturday. The measure aims to create jobs and accelerate economic growth.
The state government in a circular said that no employee should work more than ten hours a day.
“All employers shall not require or permit any employed person to work for them for more than eight hours on any day and forty-eight hours in any week and the period of work, including overtime, shall not exceed ten hours on any day, “the government order said.
All employees are entitled to at least one week off, the government said. He added that if an employee is forced to work more than eight hours a day, they will have to be paid an overtime allowance.
Employees will not be allowed to work after 8:00 p.m. M. On no day under normal circumstances.
“Provided that an employer, after obtaining the written consent of an employee, may allow her to work between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM Subject to providing adequate protection of her dignity, honor and safety “said the government.
The government said employers or managers who violate its directives regarding shift schedules will face action.
“If the employees are found working on any public holiday or after normal working hours without the appropriate overtime penalty, a criminal action will be brought against the employer / Manager as established in the Karnataka Stores and Establishments Law and the Karnataka Rules of Shops and Commercial Establishments “, the notice read.
The new system will be in place for the next three years, the state government added.
