BENGALURU: Covid-19 positive cases increased in Karnataka with 53 new cases reported by Sunday noon, bringing the state total to 847 positive cases.
Of the new cases reported, 31 infected people came from the Belagavi, Bagalkot and Davanagere districts and have a history of travel to Ajmer in Rajasthan, while eight people from the local constituency of Prime Minister BS Yediyurappa, Shikaripura in the Shivamogga district They have a history of travel to Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

Sources said a group of nearly 35 members from the Belagavi and Bagalkot districts had been trapped in Ajmer after the closure was announced. “They made multiple attempts to reach Karnataka, but were unable to leave Ajmer. Finally, they obtained a travel pass and hired a vehicle to get to Belagavi. When they reached the Karnataka border on May 2, they were intercepted and quarantined by the Belagavi district administration. Tests in 31 of them have given positive results so far, “said a senior health department official.
Regarding those who tested positive in the Shivamogga district, officials said they had returned from Gujarat, where the cases are high. The Shivamogga district, which had not seen a single case, has now become the orange zone.
In addition, seven positive cases of Bhatkal were reported in Uttara Kannada, three in Bengaluru and Kalaburagi and one in the Chikkaballapur and Davanagere districts.
