Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband said she married him as a rebound after Abhishek Bachchan [Throwback]

Karisma Kapoor has made many romantic movies and, over the years, has wowed audiences with her on-screen chemistry with her co-stars. But in real life, their love stories did not have a happy ending.

Karisma was in the ninth cloud when he got engaged to Abhishek Bachchan after his movie ‘Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya Hai’. Bachchan’s parivaar announced the union of the two most prestigious Bollywood families through an extravagant event and Karisma was welcomed into the family.

But soon, the wedding was mysteriously canceled and Karisma-Abhishek broke up.

Karisma Kapoor ‘toxic’ marriage to Sanjay Kapoor

Shortly after her breakup with Abhishek Bachchan, news of Karisma’s marriage to Sanjay Kapoor began making headlines. Although the couple was involved in a lavish wedding ceremony in 2003, they separated in 2010.

Lolo left Sanjay’s house, along with his sons Samaira and Kiaan, and began the ugly and protracted divorce battle. While Karisma was candid about the torture she has to go through Sanjay, and how her ex-husband and family have assaulted her, Sanjay also came out with some vitriolic comments about Karisma.

I was a ‘rebound’ for Karisma: Sanjay Kapoor

As the battle for divorce continued, Sanjay filed a petition in family court alleging that Karisma married him for money. He alleged that Karisma married him “in a calculated and clinical way.”

According to the India Today report, he also blamed Karisma for his failed marriage. He was also recorded to say that it was only a rebound in 2003, after his breakup with Abhishek Bachchan.

Sanjay also added that Lolo used his young children as “pawns” and did not allow him or his family to join them to claim more money. In addition, he insisted that Karisma denied his sick father access to meet Samaira and Kiaan, and died after six months “while regretting them.”

After a long and ugly fight for custody and alimony, the divorce of Karisma Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor was finalized in 2016. Sanjay Kapoor is now married to Priya Sachdeva. Karisma, on the job front, is bathing in the success of her web series, Mentalhood.
