Kareena Kapoor Khan spoke out in support of the film industry after the Producers Guild of India countered the accusations leveled against Bollywood. In an open letter, the growers union said that the description of the industry as hostile to outsiders and a “murky den of substance abuse and criminality” is incorrect. Kareena used Instagram Stories to share the note and wrote, “With my industry.” Others, including Bipasha Basu, Nimrat Kaur, Hansal Mehta, Ram Gopal Varma and Dia Mirza also expressed their solidarity with the film industry.
“The last few months have seen relentless attacks on the reputation of the Indian film industry in all media. Some have used the tragic death of a promising young star as a tool to smear and smear the film industry and its members. An image of the industry has been painted as a terrible place to which outsiders aspire; a place that treats those who dare to enter it with contempt and mockery; a murky den of substance abuse and criminality. This narrative is lewd enough to be exploited to great effect by the media to boost your ratings, readership, and page views. But it is not the truth, ”the letter said.
With the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, Bollywood has come under increased scrutiny. It has been alleged that there is a ‘film mafia’, which makes the decisions and decides who to promote and whose career to destroy. Questions were raised about the practice of nepotism and why starchildren receive preferential treatment compared to the ‘outsiders’ they deserve. Recently, Kangana Ranaut also claimed that an overwhelming majority of people in the film industry are drug users.
“Like any other sector, there is no question that the film industry has its flaws, and there must always be a continuous attempt by any industry to improve itself, learn and evolve, while eliminating the unpleasant elements or inappropriate practices that hold it back. . But painting an entire industry with the same brush is a gross misrepresentation of reality, ”wrote the producers association in the letter.
The guild drew attention to how the film industry generates employment by lakhs and has “embraced and embraced talents from all over the country.” The industry has also contributed generously to national causes in times of need, the letter adds.
“We do not deny the personal experiences of anyone in the industry, and undoubtedly many of those who enter the business and seek to establish themselves have faced numerous difficulties, struggles and disappointments in the course of building a career here,” the letter read, adding that the same happens in all professions.

The Producers Guild urged those seeking a career in film not to be “fooled by clickbait journalism” that portrays the industry as a terrible place to work. “However, a concerted effort has been made to highlight the film industry as one that specifically inhibits and prohibits new talent from abroad from flourishing. This couldn’t be further from the truth. There are dozens of talented actors, directors, writers, musicians, cinematographers, editors, sound designers, production designers, costume designers, art directors, and many other film professionals in multiple disciplines who have had absolutely no connection to the industry, but they have flourished. and produced an inspiring and groundbreaking work, which has defined, and then redefined, Indian cinema, ”the letter said.
Addressing the subject of nepotism, the producers’ guild said: “Being born into the industry definitely gives you the privilege of access and a first break, but then it depends on the talent, hard work and drive of each individual to propel them forward.” . And he added that while it is ‘undoubtedly more difficult for outsiders to get that first chance to showcase their talent,’ there were enough outsider success stories to show that it wasn’t impossible.
“These are difficult times for our country and the world, so instead of taking our fears and frustrations out on each other with vile and vicious trolling, it is more important than ever to unite rather than tear us apart. Members of the industry on both sides of this debate, especially women, have been subjected to rape and death threats. This is unacceptable and must stop now, ”the letter read, urging the media to ‘stop fanning the flames’ and show ‘common human decency’.
