Former Indian captain Kapil Dev stirred social media when he came up with his new look in the middle of the shutdown. He shaved his head but saved his beard, making it look salty and pepper. Now, the 1983 World Cup winning patron has revealed the reason behind his appearance.

Kapil said his new bald bearded avatar is inspired by West Indies legend Sir Viv Richards, whom he described as his hero and the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian captain, MS Dhoni.

While answering to sports journalist Vikrant Gupta, Kapil revealed the fascinating story and also named Dhonis as his hero. The official Chennai Super Kings (CSK) identifier also shared a video of the candid conversation on Twitter.

“I had seen Sir Vivian Richards on your Instagram. He is my hero, so (I thought) why not? I will follow my hero. I also saw Dhoni, who is also my hero and had his hair cut after winning the World Cup. So I thought why not, now I have the opportunity, so I did it, ”said Kapil.

The hitting phenomenon, Richards responded to CSK’s tweet and said Kapil took the right inspiration.

“Hahaha, you took the right inspiration, my friend @therealkapildev,” Richards tweeted.

The iconic Caribbean player looked bald with a beard after retiring from the game, while Dhoni ran out of hair just after India lifted the WC trophy in 2011.
