NEW DELHI: Former Indian captain Kapil Dev said his new bald-headed man with a beard is inspired by the West Indies great living Viv Richards, whom he described as his hero, and the World Cup-winning Indian captain of 2011, MS Dhoni.

“I had seen Sir Vivian Richards on your Instagram. He is my hero, so (I thought) why not? I will follow my hero. I also saw Dhoni, who is also my hero and had his hair cut after winning the World Cup. So I thought why not, now I have the chance, so I did it, “Kapil said in a video tweeted by Chennai Super Kings.

Richards responded to the CSK tweet, saying, “Hahaha, you took the right inspiration, my friend @therealkapildev”

Dhoni had cut his long locks after winning the 2007 World T20 and was sporting a semi-bald look after winning the 2011 World Cup.

The bald look of the bearded Kapil is also quite similar to what Richards has worn for most of his retired life.

The two faced each other on the field several times, most notably in the 1983 World Cup final in which the rather unannounced Kapil Indian team surprised the mighty West Indies and won the trophy.

It was the third edition of the tournament and the first time that a team other than the Antilles had won it.
