Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor approached King George Medical University (KGMU), offering to donate her plasma for the treatment of other Covid-19 patients. The singer had called the head of the department of transfusion medicine, Professor Tulika Chandra, and offered to help.

“Yesterday morning I called the hospital to tell them that I want to give my blood and plasma for research or help others if possible. I want to do what I can to help. Yesterday I gave my blood,” said the singer.

According to experts, Kanika’s sample will be analyzed for various things before she can donate her plasma. These include his hemoglobin level which must be greater than 12.5, the weight must be greater than 50 kg and the patient must not have diabetes, cardiovascular problems, malaria, syphilis and other similar illnesses.

Kanika Kapoor had made headlines last month when she became the first Bollywood celebrity to test positive for Coronavirus.

Kanika had attended two parties in Lucknow in the presence of the leading politicians and bureaucrats and all of them were later examined for Corona.

Kanika was hospitalized for more than two weeks at the Sanjay Gandhi Graduate Medical Sciences Institute (SGPGIMS).

On April 26, she came out with a statement clarifying her journey and the Covid-19 story stating that she was aware of misconceptions and misinformation floating around her, but decided to remain silent until she was ready to speak.

Kanika in her social media post had said that all the people she came into contact with in the UK, Mumbai and Lucknow had been negative and that she had followed the process properly.

Meanwhile, the KGMU on Sunday night performed the first plasma transfusion on a 58-year-old patient from Orai, a government doctor, whose condition was critical.

Doctors now say that the patient is responding well to the transfusion.

The university has received three plasma donations from fully recovered Covid-19 patients, two from doctors and one from a Lakhimpur man.
