Kangana Ranaut received Y-plus security coverage after the Bollywood actor’s father petitioned the state government in Himachal Pradesh, said Union State Minister for Home G Kishan Reddy.
Reddy said the Himachal Pradesh government had asked for Ranaut’s safety after his father wrote to the state’s chief minister, Jai Ram Thakur. According to her father, Ranaut was responding to social problems causing “heartburn” for some people in Maharashtra, the minister told reporters on Friday, according to the PTI news agency.
The union minister said that Ranaut’s father also met with Jai Ram Thakur and submitted a memorandum that his daughter was being harassed and, at his request, the Himachal chief minister informed the center about the situation. Reddy, however, did not clarify who will pay the security bills.
This came amid a growing war of words between the actor and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut. The verbal duel between the actor and Raut began after his comment of “Mumbai feels like Kashmir occupied by Pakistan.” He had also said that he feared the Mumbai police more than what he has termed the “movie mafia”.
Authorities have said the decision to provide security cover was made after a perception of threat was carried out and the Himachal Pradesh government also approached the Union Ministry of the Interior.
In the Y-plus category, Ranaut has between 10 and 11 armed commandos that monitor her in three shifts, with two or three Personnel Security Officers (PSO) accompanying her 24 hours a day and a security personnel deployed in her home.
