New Delhi: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is known for her bold and controversial statements, nowadays more on social media. In a kind of respite, the Punjab and Haryana High Court gave the actress a clean fine in a dispute that got her into trouble.
The matter is related to an alleged old tweet by the actress about eating beef, after which Ludhiana-based Navneet Gopi filed a petition in Punjab and Haryana High Court against Kangana for hurting religious sentiments.
The petitioner stated that Kangana is promoting the consumption of beef through her statements, which has hurt religious sentiments. Navneet has also filed a complaint against Kangana Ranaut at a Ludhiana police station, but no action has been taken so far.
The petitioner has requested that an FIR be filed against the actress under Article 8 of the Punjab Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act of 1995, Articles 66 and 67 of the Information Technology Act of 2000 and Article 295 of the Indian penal code of 1860.
However, Judge Manoj Bajaj dismissed the petition as “vague” and “ill-conceived.” The court said it is not clear from any of the posts that Kangana is promoting the consumption of beef, but her post is rather than saying that she has become a vegetarian herself. In the second post, Kangana discusses dietary differences in India and abroad.
Adding more, the court stated that the post that has gone viral on social media does not show anywhere that it was posted on social media by the actor. Therefore, the facts and circumstances do not indicate the commission of any recognizable crime by the defendant.
After the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Kangana has spoken about various things like nepotism, drug mafia, etc. in the film industry through his tweets.
Navneet Gopi, a resident of Ludhiana, also sought protection and claimed that he is receiving threats following a complaint against the actress. However, the court rejected his allegation saying that the petitioner has not named any organization or person to threaten him, in such a situation that he cannot be protected.
