Kangana’s safety is important to us: Himachal Pradesh CM
Himachal Pradesh CM Jai Ram Thakur said in a video: “The safety of Kangana Ranaut is very important to us. We ordered the DGP to assess your safety, after which we decided to provide you with security at your Himachal residence and, if necessary, we will dispatch the Himachal Police for your tour (will visit Mumbai on September 9). In addition, we learned from the MHA that a team of 11 CRPF commandos will be provided. “Usually when there is a threat to actors in Mumbai, the Mumbai police provide security for them. However, Kangana recently tweeted that they do not I would ask for security. “In Mumbai, I would need security from the HP government or directly from the Center, not Mumbai police please,” he had written.
I have not yet received an official letter from the MHA: CRPF DIG
CRPF officials say they are still waiting for an official letter to notify that they have to delegate personnel for Kangana’s security. DIG Moses Dhinakaran, spokesperson for CRPF, says: “We have not received the letter from the MHA yet.” CRPF officials say this will be the first time they have provided security to a Bollywood actor. The only actor they are providing security for is MP Rupa Ganguly. After the NSG commandos withdrew from VIP protection security, the paramilitary forces now provide VIP security for categories X, Y and Z, and the CRPF, ITBP and CISF are generally tasked with this, along with the police of the state government.
DIG Anil Pandey, CISF spokesperson, says: “We are providing security to 65 dignitaries, but not to any Bollywood actor.” ITBP also does not provide security for Bollywood actors.
Many actors in Mumbai provided police security over the years.
Until 2016, the Mumbai police provided security to 40 Bollywood celebrities. In January 2016, security coverage was reportedly lowered for 25 Bollywood celebrities. However, Mumbai police officials declined to share details about the celebrities they are currently providing security to. Officials from the P&S branch of the Mumbai police said: “We cannot share any details of the security provided to any actor.”
When a celebrity in any state needs police protection, he writes to the district police, who then assess the situation.
When is security provided?
There are largely five categories of security coverage that are provided to people: X, Y, Y +, Z, and Z +. These are given on the basis of:
- Intelligence reports
- Personal requests
- Threat perception
- Maintain law and order in a meeting
The applicant must submit a written request, after which security is considered. The police charge a fee to Bollywood actors for providing security. However, if the Center approves the security, then it is the MHA that decides the payment / non-payment. Officials say it is generally not paid by the celebrity.
