Probably for the first time in IPL history, Kane Williamson was visibly frustrated and abject by the non-forward’s actions when Indian U-19 captain Priyam Garg failed to take off with a single. Williamson had already reached the middle of the field before Ambati Rayudu cut him off.
Chennai Super Kings were still fighting for the grounds until Piyush Chawla appeared in the game, against fit David Warner, who was hitting the ball sweetly. However, after a headlong shot from the southpaw, who barely tried to go to a slaughterhouse against the leg shooter, he holed out deep fielder Faf du Plessis, whose brilliant attempt ended in an easy ejection. The onus was now on Kiwi hitter Kane Williamson to resurrect the mini collapse against CSK spinners who were beginning to look dangerous.
After hitting the ball in the 30-yard circle, Williamson hit a quick single off Chawla’s bowling pin only to find his non-forward confused and not ready for the single. In the end, it turned out that the Kiwi pattern was almost halfway to the end of the non-forward before discovering that he had to turn in a desperate attempt to get back on his line.
However, on the field, an agile and fast Ambati Rayudu lunged at the ball and launched a quick direct shot at MS Dhoni, who was waiting behind the posts to fire the right-hander. Immediately after finishing below the fold, Captain Kiwi was visibly frustrated and glared at the young Indian batter before shaking his head and returning to the locker room.
