Kamal Haasan Extends Support to Anna University VC Surappa, Says ‘We cannot allow the creation of another Nambi Narayanan’ Chennai News

CHENNAI: Actor and boss of Makkal Needhi Maiam Kamal haasan Saturday came out in support of Anna University vice Chancellor MK Surappa and he lashed out at the Tamil Nadu government for forming an investigative committee against the VC based on an anonymous letter.
Calling ministers and senior leaders of the ruling party as “corrupt collectives (uzhal thilagangal),” Kamal said it could differ from Surappa’s politics and ideology. But he and his party would not keep silent when an honest person was threatened by a group of corrupt politicians.
In a video message, he said: “We must not create another Nambi Narayanan (a former Isro scientist who was falsely accused in a spy case and arrested) ”.
the MNM he had opposed Surappa’s appointment when he was appointed as VC and questioned whether there was no one in the state eligible for the position. “We continue with that, but he is an honest man and he did not give in to authoritarian pressure. He tried to improve the quality of the engineering standard in TN. But corrupt politicians are not allowing it to happen, ”Kamal said.
He questioned the rationale behind the formation of an investigative committee against Surappa based on an anonymous letter. Kamal pointed to corruption charges against ministers of higher education, animal husbandry, family health and welfare, and urban and local body, and wondered why the charges were not being investigated.
“(Former Vice Chancellor of Anna University) E Balagurusamy alleged that the higher education minister was demanding a bribe of Rs 60 lakh for the appointment of a professor. Opposition parties and social activities have filed corruption charges every day against ministers. Why are these charges not being investigated? Kamal asked.
Kamal called the fight between the Tamil Nadu government and VC a “battle between honesty and corruption”, and urged people who defend the truth to break their “silence and speak now.”
He also singled out Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami for declaring all passes for students in arrears and said: “Conducting exams and announcing the results is the job of an educator. Why are corrupt politicians poking their noses here too? Are those who bought votes through bribes trying to buy students with qualifications? ”
He said that the list of victims blacklisted by corrupt politicians was huge, from IAS officials such as U Sagayam to Santhosh Babu (the latter joined the MNM recently). “When high-ranking officials tire of fighting with them and seek voluntary retirement, what is the status of ordinary citizens?” he said and pointed out that they would no longer remain silent.
