JEE 2020 Top Outcome: JoSAA 2020 Counseling FAQs

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) online counseling process will be underway shortly. Candidates will be admitted to India Institutes of Technology (IIT), National Institutes of Technology (NIT), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) and some Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTI) to through the JoSAA online counseling and seating process. After the declaration of JEE Main Result 2020 and based on the rank obtained in JEE Main and JEE Advanced, admission to institutes will be made.

Question: What is JoSAA?

Answer: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority, commonly known as JoSSA, is the managing authority for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced seating allocation. Candidates will be admitted to IIT, NIT, IIIT and other GFTI through JoSSA.

Question: What are the institute seat quotas that will be considered at JoSAA 2020?

Answer: JoSAA 2020 has the following seat quotas:

  • All India Quota – Candidates from across the country will be eligible for this seat quota

  • Home State Quota: Candidates who will have the same state eligibility code as the state / union territory in which the Institute is located will be eligible for this seat quota.

  • Out-of-State Quota: Candidates whose eligibility status is NOT the same as the state / union territory in which the Institute is located will be considered under this seat quota.

Question: What is CSAB?

Answer: The Central Board for the Assignment of Places, or CSAB, is an agency constituted by the Ministry of Education and has the responsibility of admission to the different undergraduate courses offered by the GFTI of the IIIT.

Question: Will PIO / OCI cardholders be eligible for admission through JoSAA?

Answer: Yes, PIO / OCI cardholders will be eligible for admission to NIT / IIIT / GFTI based on their 2020 JEE Main ranks and IIT based on their 2020 JEE Advanced ranks.

Question: What are the eligibility criteria for the JoSAA 2020 assessment like?

Answer: Candidates qualified on one or both of the JEE Main 2020 documents are eligible for the JoSSA 2020 assessment. However, each academic program at partner institutes has some additional eligibility requirements that candidates must meet in order to gain admission.

Question: What if I miss the JoSAA counseling?

Answer: If applicants who wish to be admitted to the IIT, IIIT, NIT or GFTI lose their JoSAA Counseling 2020, their admission to the institute will be lost.

Question: When will the JoSAA document verification take place?

Answer: If a candidate has accepted an assigned position at any of the institutes in any of the JoSAA advisory rounds, that applicant will have to report to any of the institutes’ reporting centers for document verification.

Question: What does dual reporting mean in JoSSA counseling?

Answer: If a candidate has accepted an assigned position in a NIT + Institute in the first round and then in any subsequent round will be assigned a position in an IIT, then that person will have to report to any of the IIT reporting centers for verification of documents. Similarly, if a candidate has accepted a position at any of the IITs in a round and is assigned a NIT + institute, they will again have to report to any of the NIT + reporting centers. Otherwise, you will lose both seats.

Question: Suppose I have accepted my seat at NIT / IIIT / GFTI in round 1; now I got an offer from an IIT in later rounds. What will happen to my previously assigned seat?

Answer: In this case, your accepted seat in NIT, IIIT or GFTI will be considered lost.

Question: What will happen if there are several candidates with the same rank seeking to be admitted to the same academic program?

Answer: All candidates will have the same preference, in that case. If necessary, supernumerary entries will be created.
