Prime Minister Boris Johnson faced a rebellion in his party, and the fury in great Britain, on Monday for refusing to fire his closest aide Dominic Cummings, who is accused of violating the coronavirus security lock by driving 250 miles from London.
In the defense of Britain’s most powerful men, Johnson said that at the end of week Cummings acted “responsibly and lawfully and with integrity” by the departure from London for the north of England with her son and his wife, who was sick with COVID-19 symptoms.
Many believe that it was hypocritical, given that the government’s mantra at the time to avoid this type of movements.
“What planet are they on?”, wondered the Daily Mail, an influential right paper generally supportive of Johnson and his adviser, who helped the prime minister’s power, and to secure Britain’s exit from the European Union.
About 20 ruling Conservative Party legislators, 14 of the Church of England bishops and some of the scientists also expressed their anger.

With the number of deaths of around 43,000, Britain is the worst hit country in Europe, and that the government is already under pressure over his handling of the pandemic.
Different Rules?
Conservative lawmakers reported being contacted by outraged constituents who had made sacrifices during the running of the bulls, including to stay away from dying relatives.
“I got flooded with emails of people who don’t have a political axe to grind, and you say… ‘though it seems that it is one rule for them and for us, why should we now be met by the government of guidance?’,” the senator said Tim Loughton.
Behavioral scientist Stephen Reicher, a member of a panel which advises the government, said that the scandal would wreck the confidence of the public. “In a few minutes this evening, Boris Johnson, has destroyed all the advice that we have given on how to build trust and ensure the adherence to the necessary measures for the control of COVID-19.”
Johnson’s office in Downing Street said Cummings made the trip from their parents, of the property in the County of Durham to make sure that their four year old child could be cared for by their family members if they fell ill, along with his wife.
At the time, the government of instructions for anyone showing symptoms would not go out of the house for 14 days.
The architect of the successful Brexit campaign in 2016, Cummings, 48, is a polarising figure, accused by many of those who wanted to stay in the EU to use inflammatory tactics and playing fast and loose with the facts.
Unfortunately for him and for Johnson, many of the legislators and of the columnists of the newspaper to call him to be sacked were Brexit supporters, not his usual criticism.
Arriving home Sunday afternoon, Cummings was harangued by neighbors, including a woman who broke down in tears as she looked out her window and described the difficulties that she and her family had suffered during the running of the bulls.
In contrast with Cummings, Scotland’s chief medical officer and a head of epidemiology, which recommended that the government resigned after admitting that he had broken the lock of the rules.
