“To the millions of Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Buddhists who celebrate the Festival of Lights … I send our best wishes for a #HappyDiwali,” Biden tweeted.
On November 14, US President-elect Joe Biden, his deputy Kamala Harris, and incumbent President Donald Trump greeted Deepavali with those celebrating the festival of lights.
“To the millions of Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Buddhists celebrating the Festival of Lights, @DrBiden and I send our best wishes for a #HappyDiwali. May your new year be full of hope, happiness and prosperity. Get out Mubarak, ”Biden tweeted.
Ms. Harris, who wrote the story by becoming the first Native American and African American Vice President in the United States, extended her greetings on the occasion of Deepavali.
“Happy Diwali and Sal Mubarak! @DouglasEmhoff and I wish everyone around the world celebrating a safe, healthy and happy New Year, ”tweeted the vice president-elect of the United States.
In a joint statement, Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris wished a happy Deepavali to all who celebrate the festival of lights in the US, India and the world.
“Like so many traditions cherished during the pandemic, we know that this year’s Diwali and its symbolization of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and empathy over apathy comes with a deeper meaning,” they said.
“Our hearts go out to all who are ushering in this new year with the recent loss of a loved one, or who are going through difficult times. Our prayers remain with all those fighting the pandemic on the front lines rather than staying safe at home praying with their families. And we know the sadness of being separated on a day that truly means the blessing of family and friendship, ”they said.
But Diwali is ultimately a reminder of the light that is within all of us to hope and dream, and to overcome our differences and maintain faith in others. That is the light that we see shine on this day and that will guide us through the darkness with knowledge, science, truth, unity and compassion, ”the joint statement said.
“And that is why as Diwali is celebrated through video calls and, although socially distanced this year, we hope to celebrate Diwali at the White House next year, in person, together with you and in a healthy and united nation,” they said.
President Donald Trump shared a picture of him lighting a lamp in the White House. “Happy Diwali” was written on the photo.
The Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence, greeted happy Diwali to all those who celebrated the festival around the world.
Earlier, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also extended his regards on Deepavali.
“Happy Independence Day to all who celebrate the victory of light over darkness. Have a happy Festival of Lights! “tweeted Pompeo, who is currently on a seven-country tour of Europe and Western Asia.
“Happy Independence Day! We wish everyone safety and good health as they celebrate the Festival of Lights. Even if you are physically separated from family and friends, may the spirit of the season bring joy and light, the South and Central Asia State Department Office said.
“Sending warm wishes to all who celebrate the Festival of Lights as they commemorate this holiday through prayer, the lighting of diyas and lanterns, and parties and other festivities. On behalf of the State Department, we wish you a happy Independence Day! “said Deputy State Department spokesman Cale Brown.
“The main theme of Diwali is a celebration of the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance,” said Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in his Deepavali greetings.
“I wish you love and light, from my house to yours, happy #Diwali!” Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal said in her greetings.
“Now that we open a new chapter after a critical election, I cannot think of a better time to summon the spirit of this Festival of Lights. May it remind us that dharma (goodness, duty, righteousness) must always prevail, Jayapal said. “As we call in the spirit of this Festival of Lights, let us continue to oppose the forces of hate, racism and xenophobia that seek to divide us and at the same time denounce injustice wherever we see it,” he said in another tweet.
