Earlier today, three members of the Indian security forces were among six people killed in multiple ceasefire violations committed by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) since Gurez sector to the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, authorities said.
They said Pakistani troops fired mortars and other weapons.
In the Nambla sector of Uri, two army soldiers were killed in the Pakistani gunfire, officials said.
A BSF deputy inspector was also killed in the Haji Peer sector, while a jawan was injured, they said.
Two civilians were killed in the Kamalkote sector in the Uri area of Baramulla District while a woman was killed in the Balkote area in the Haji Peer sector of Uri, they added.
Officials said several people were injured in the Pakistani assault.
They said that apart from several places in Uri, the ceasefire violations were reported from Izmarg in the Gurez sector of the Bandipora district and the Keran sector of the Kupwara district.
A defense spokesman said the Army thwarted an infiltration attempt, which was aided by the ceasefire violation, throughout the LoC in the Keran sector.
Almost all BSF units throughout the LoC have faced heavy gunfire since morning and effective retaliation has been mounted by troops, artillery regiment and supporting weapons, said a senior officer of the force.
The BSF works under the operational command of the Army in the LoC.
