J&K: Army officer wounded in Baramulla encounter with terrorists

An Indian army officer was injured during a shootout with terrorists in a village in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

The encounter broke out in the village of Yedipora in the Pattan area on Friday morning. According to a PTI report, the security forces were conducting a search operation in the area and were shot, which triggered the encounter.

The officer was injured in the initial exchange of fire and was rushed to a local hospital in Srinagar for treatment, PTI reported. Two to three terrorists remain trapped while personnel from the police, the army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are dedicated to expelling them.

The area has been cordoned off and the meeting continues.

In the last two weeks, the police and the army have launched several operations in the area after the presence of terrorists was reported.

On Thursday night, several checkpoints were established in Kralhar, after receiving specific information about the terrorist movement in Pattan, police said.

“During the routine check, three people moving from the Zangam crossing to the Pattan main market on the Baramulla national road were observed to be moving in a suspicious manner. The individuals were challenged by staff at the Naka Aangam crossing when they attempted to flee after being challenged from the scene. Security forces personnel cordoned off and detained the fleeing people and recovered three grenades from them, “a police spokesman said Thursday.

The detainees have been identified as Abid Parvaiz from Andergam, Javaid Hassan Ittoo from Goushbugh and Jan Nissar Khaliq from Chanderhama Pattan.

Police said all three worked as surface workers for the Lashkar-e-Taiba team.
