J&K: Apni Party thwarts the possibility of PAGD claiming DDC in Shopian

Over the past two days, the JK Apni Party, led by Altaf Bukhari, has claimed that three candidates, one independent and one from the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party, who won the District Development Council elections from the electoral districts At Shopian, they have joined their ranks.

With this, the JK Apni Party’s account in the Shopian DDC will reach five, but it will still be some distance from crossing the majority mark on the 14-member strong council. Originally, the Apni Party candidates had won in just two constituencies in the Shopian district: Kanjiullar and Keller II.

The candidates of the Popular Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) won seven seats (National Conference – 3 and PDP – 4). With the support of the only winning candidate in Congress, Nigeena Akhter of Chitragam, she could have taken the advice. But since the attrition laws do not apply to winning DDC candidates, the PAGD has no recourse when its winning candidates change allegiance.

By accepting candidates from NC and PDP, Apni Party has reduced PAGD’s chances of taking control of Shopian DDC. If the other three remaining independent candidates also join the Apni Party, Bukhari could claim the Shopian DDC.

While the Apni Party has taken winning candidates in Shopian from other parties, the National Conference has said that its own Shopian district president has been detained since the results were declared. “The district president, Shopian Showkat Ahmed Genaie, has been detained for three days; The administration has not yet released the reasons for the arrest, ”the party said in a statement, demanding his immediate release.

On Friday, the Apni Party issued a statement stating that Yasmeena Jan, a DDC member of the Imam Sahib-I seat at Shopian, has joined JKAP. Jan had won the seat on a National Conference ticket.

In reaction to the Apni Party’s decision, former North Carolina Senior Minister and Vice President Omar Abdullah said in a tweet: “This explains why the police are putting our leaders in the Shopian district under ‘pretrial arrest.’ . J&K police and administration are facilitating horse trading and desertions. The woman shown here joining BJP’s B-team ran and won the election in a North Carolina term. “

Omar Abdullah also took office for “playing partisan politics.” These parties could not win seats and so “now they are using money / muscle / threats and government coercion to offset the numbers. So much for ‘democracy has won’! ” he said.

The day before, the Apni Party had said that two victorious candidates, Fazal-Din Deedad and Abdul Rashid Lone, who also won the Shopian DDC, had joined the party. Deedad was an independent candidate who ran for Keller 1’s Shopian seat, and Lone had won on a PDP ticket.
