Three army men and a BSF Jawan were killed in an encounter that broke out Sunday morning after terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Line of Control (LoC) in the Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir in the Kupwara district. Security forces also shot dead three militants, the defense spokesman said in a statement.
Around 1 a.m., a BSF patrol noticed suspicious movement about 3.5 km from the LoC, defense spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said. An encounter soon broke out in the area where one of the terrorists was killed. A BSF soldier was also killed in action. The shooting stopped at 4 in the morning. After this, reinforcements were dispatched to the area. Shooting resumed at 10.20 a.m. M. Approximately 1.5 km from LoC. In the shooting that followed, two more terrorists were killed. The Indian side also saw three more casualties. Two of the wounded soldiers have been evacuated.
