Expressing serious concern over the alleged rape of a woman by 17 men in Jharkhand’s Dumka district, the National Commission for Women (NCW) today called on state police to complete the investigation of the case within two months.
The woman was reportedly raped and her husband abducted by 17 men as the couple returned home from a market on Tuesday night.
The woman told police that the defendants were drunk, according to reports.
In a statement, the National Commission for Women said it is seriously concerned about the reported incident and has learned of the matter in suo motu.
“President Rekha Sharma has written to the Director General of the Police, Jharkhand, requesting that he adhere to the Interior Ministry’s guidelines to complete investigations in two months in cases of sexual assault,” the National Commission for Women said.
The commission said it has also asked the police for a detailed report on the measures taken in the matter.
