Jharkhand Minister Haji Hussain Ansari dies at 73

Haji Hussain Ansari died on Saturday at a Ranchi hospital.

Ranchi:

Jharkhand minority welfare minister Haji Hussain Ansari died on Saturday at a hospital in Ranchi, official sources said.

He was 73 years old.

Ansari, a senior leader at JMM, was admitted to Medanta hospital about two weeks ago after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

A spokesperson for Medanta Hospital said Ansari tested negative for COVID-19 on Friday, which meant that he had recovered.

“Therefore, he did not die of COVID-19. He died tonight due to cardiac arrest,” the spokesperson said.

Ansari’s family said he recently underwent heart surgery.

Health Minister Banna Gupta also said that Ansari’s death did not occur due to COVID-19.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren said he played a leading role in the movement for Jharkhand.

“He was a mass leader with simple sense and conviction. May God give peace to Haji saheb’s soul and give the family the strength to endure the hour of pain,” he tweeted in Hindi.

Ansari was a four-time board member of the Madhupur assembly segment in Deoghar.

Union Minister Arjun Munda also mourned Ansari’s disappearance and said it was of a very simple nature.

Former Prime Minister Raghuvar Das also expressed his deepest condolences on Ansari’s death and prayed for the peace of his soul.

In March, Ansari and her son were quarantined at home after returning from the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi’s Nizamuddin.
