New Delhi: Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, during a live interaction with students, teachers and other stakeholders on Thursday, said the ministry is considering increasing the number of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) attempts. “We are considering increasing the number of JEE attempts from two to three or four following the suggestions received,” he said. He also said that based on the situation in the past and in case the situation does not improve in the near future due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the ministry has decided to give students more time for their competitive exams. Noting that many students have been demanding to take the JEE exam more than twice a year, the minister said that this matter will be discussed with stakeholders. Responding to a request submitted by a student who asked the minister to reduce the curriculum for competitive exams, the minister noted suggestions to reduce the curriculum by 10-20 percent, but nothing was confirmed to the respect. He also spoke about postponing examinations if the pandemic situation does not improve. Also read: Will NEET 2021 be canceled? Will the exams be taken offline or online? This is what the Minister of Education said
The education minister said that discussions are in place and it is possible that the pattern of the paper will change (such as introducing options or giving fewer questions from the parts that have been removed) in competitive exams. It took note of the suggestions on reducing the syllabus by 10-20%. However, there is no indication that the same would be done.
Previously, Pokhriyal had also asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to speak with state boards before finalizing the syllabus for tickets.
After there was a lot of confusion about the upcoming meeting and the entrance exams, the education minister decided to host today’s live interaction. He also responded to various inquiries raised by stakeholders during interactions.
And, due to the ongoing pandemic and postponement of exams, there have still been no physical classes this year. As a result, students have been demanding a delay in exams and program cuts for the entrance exam. Given the lawsuits, some of the boards, including CBSE, CISCE, and many state boards, have already announced curriculum cuts.
Also during the previous academic session, the minister of education had announced the dates of the JEE Main, NEET exams and several other important announcements through live interactions on social media platforms.
