JEE Advanced 2021 to be held on July 3, 75% eligibility criteria removed: Pokhriyal


Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ announced on Thursday that the JEE Advanced will take place on July 3 this year. The competitive exam will be organized by IIT Kharagpur.

The minister further announced that the eligibility criteria of 75% of the scores for the Class 12 board exam have been removed for the convenience of students.

“You have enough time to prepare for JEE Advanced 2021. Since the Covid-19 crisis is not over yet, we have also set aside the scoring criterion of 75% in 2021,” the Education Minister said.

In previous years, students had to score a minimum of 75% in class 12 or be in the top 20th percentile on their board exams, in addition to qualifying for the IIT Advanced exam, to secure admission to any of the 23 IIT.

The Ministry of Education has also decided to allow qualified JEE Main 2020 candidates who were unable to sit for the second stage of the exam due to the Covid-19 pandemic to appear directly in JEE Advanced 2021.

In 2020, JEE Advanced was held on September 27 after being rescheduled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Several attempts

Previously, the government had announced that the joint (main) entrance exam will be held in four sessions in February, March, April and May from February 23 to 26, 2021. The next sessions of the exam will be held between March 15 and 18. , April 27-30 and May 24-28.

“We have reviewed the feedback received from students and from various sectors and it has been decided that JEE-Mains will be held in four sessions in February, March, April and May,” said Nishank.

“The measure will ensure that students do not miss opportunities due to the exam crash or due to the current Covid-19 situation,” he added.

Students will have the option of answering 75 questions (25 each in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) out of 90 (30 each in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics). The list / ranking of merits will be prepared based on the candidate’s best score.

Furthermore, in view of the New Education Policy, the JEE (Network) 2021 exam will be conducted in 13 languages: Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
