JAMMU: An army jawan was killed and another injured when Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire and resorted to strong fire and mortar bombardment in advanced areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmiris Poonch district, authorities said Thursday. The Pakistani military initiated the unprovoked violation of the ceasefire by firing small arms and intense mortar shelling along the LoC in Mankote and Sectors of Krishna Ghati Wednesday night, a defense spokesperson He said.
The Indian army retaliated appropriately, he added.
Lance Naik Karnail Singh was killed in gunfire from across the border, the spokesman said.

Another jawan was reportedly injured in the shooting in the Krishna Ghati sector and has been hospitalized.
Pakistan has been targeting Poonch villages for the past five days, resulting in injuries to several animals due to the shelling on Tuesday. The Pakistani army violated the ceasefire 47 times in September.
An Army personnel were killed and two others, including an officer, were injured on September 5 when Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire using heavy fire and mortar shells along the LoC in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district, officials said.
On September 2, a JCO was killed in another violation of the ceasefire by the Pakistani army in the Keri Rajouri sector.
