Poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar brought a defamation case against actor Kangana Ranaut in a Mumbai court for making “unfounded accusations” against him in comments made to the media about the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the news agency reported. PTI.

In the case brought before the metropolitan magistrate in Andheri, West Mumbai, Javed Akhtar requested an action under the Indian Penal Code against Kangana Ranaut for defamation, PTI reported.

In the complaint, Javed Akhtar said Kangana Ranaut made “unsubstantiated comments” that “caused reputational damage”. The complaint alleged that Kangana Ranaut dragged her name when referring to a “clique” in Bollywood while discussing the death of Sushant Singh Rajput in the media.

Kangana Ranaut has been criticizing sections of Bollywood for nepotism and a lack of transparency. After Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai home in June, Kangana Ranaut released a two-minute video in which he spoke highly of him and claimed he was a victim of nepotism in the film industry.

In a separate matter, the Mumbai Police today notified Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel to appear before them on November 10 and 11 in connection with a case of allegedly promoting enmity between communities through their comments.

A case has been filed against the actor at Bandra Police Station for allegedly provocative speech.

On October 21, a notice was issued to the duo asking them to appear before officials to record statements in the case. However, Kangana Ranaut’s lawyer responded by saying that she was in Himachal Pradesh and was busy with the wedding preparations for her first cousin.
