Starting hitter Jason Roy has been named to England’s 14-man team for the ODI series against Australia.
Roy, who was struggling with lateral tension, had missed the T20I series against Pakistan and Australia. He last played in the three-game ODI series against Ireland in July-August and racked up 25 runs in three games.
England have also added explosive hitter Dawid Malan to their reserve roster. Malan, who was the leading scorer for runs in the Australian T20I, was added after Joe Denly, who was on the reserve list, returned to Kent prior to the restart of the T20 Blast. Saqib Mahmood and Phil Salt make up the rest of the reserves.
Regular captain Eoin Morgan is expected to be in shape for the ODI series after he missed the third T20I against Australia with a finger injury. Also on the squad is Jos Buttler, who had dropped the biobubble after the second T20I for personal reasons and will be available following a successful COVID-19 test.
“Eoin, obviously good news around his finger, and knock wood, he’ll be fit too,” confirmed head coach Chris Silverwood. “Malan has come in as a reserve, Roy has come out in good shape so he will join the team and obviously Salt has also come in as a substitute.
“Jos will go back to the bubble to join us in Manchester, showing the test results. He should be available to play.”
The three-game ODI series begins on Friday, September 11 in Manchester.
