Sunrisers Hyderabad’s off-roader Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the 2020 IPL with an ankle injury and will be replaced by West Indies Test captain Jason Holder, the franchise announced on its social media channels.

Marsh, 28, sprained his right ankle in SRH’s season opener against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their follow-up bowling. He tried to finish his first trade for his new franchise, but only managed two more deliveries before limping off the field.

He did not hit at his designated position in the team’s middle order in the running chase and instead limped back to No. 10. However, he was unable to put any weight on his ankle and had to be assisted off the field by staff. team support after the first ball is fired.

In the post-game presentation, captain David Warner had said that his compatriot’s injury “does not look very good”, fears that have now been confirmed after scans.

This is the latest in a series of off-road injuries. In 2018, he required surgery on his left ankle after the test tour of South Africa. Last year, he broke his wrist after hitting a wall in frustration after being fired in a Sheffield Shield game against Tasmania. Even at the IPL, he was ruled out of the 2016 Rising Pune Supergiant season with a lateral strain and then missed the following season with a shoulder injury.

Meanwhile, Holder, who has been a part of three IPL teams in the past, including Sunrisers Hyderabad, will attempt to join his 11 international matches, the last of which came in the 2016 season playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
