SRINAGAR: Main political parties in Jammu and Kashmir On Thursday he held a meeting and formed an alliance for the restoration of the special status of the old state as it existed before August 5 of last year and also to initiate a dialogue between all those interested in the matter.
The meeting was held at the residence of the president of the National Conference. Farooq Abdullah and attended by the president of the PDP, Mehbooba Mufti, president of the Peoples’ Conference Sajad lone, The leader of the Peoples Movement, Javaid Mir, and the leader of the CPIM, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami.
Briefing reporters after the nearly two-hour meeting, Abdullah said the leaders decided to formalize the alliance, which has been dubbed the “Peoples’ Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration.”
The president of the National Conference said that the alliance will endeavor to restore the constitutional position regarding Jammu and Kashmir as it existed prior to August 5 last year.
“We will fight for the restoration of what was taken away Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh. Ours is a constitutional battle … we would endeavor to restore the constitution (regarding Jammu and Kashmir) as it existed on August 5, 2019, “he said.
Abdullah said that the alliance also seeks a dialogue between all interested parties for the resolution of the problem related to Jammu and Kashmir.
“We will inform you about the future course of action in due course,” he added.
Vice President of the National Conference Omar Abdullah and other senior party leaders were also present at the meeting.
The head of the JKPCC, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, was unable to attend the meeting “for medical reasons”.
A party spokesman said Mir had relayed his inability to attend the meeting to Farooq Abdullah, as doctors advised the leader of Congress to get a medical examination, including a COVID test.
Abdullah said the meeting congratulated the PPD president on her release from 14 months of detention, which they said was “completely illegal and unjustified.”
On August 4 last year, all the main Kashmir political parties except the BJP had gathered at the residence of Farooq Abdullah amid the uncertainty and tension in the former state, as the Center had sent paramilitary forces additional there as he asked all the tourists, including the Amarnath pilgrims, to leave. the Valley as soon as possible.
The joint statement issued by the political parties, expressing concern about the situation, became known as the Gupkar Declaration.
The Center revoked the state’s special constitutional status and also divided it into two union territories: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
In a follow-up, the political parties met again in August this year and vowed to fight for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
