A day after a freight train detained more than 16 workers on the railway tracks in the Aurangabad district in the early hours of Friday, the Jalna district collector formed an investigative committee to investigate the incident.

A group of 20 people, from different villages in the Shahdol and Umaria districts of Madhya Pradesh, who worked with different companies in Jalna, left their residence on Thursday night. They started walking from Jalna to Bhusawal in Jalgaon (about 150 km) hoping to board a “Shramik Special” train to return to Madhya Pradesh.

But in the early hours of Friday, they stopped to eat and rest on the train tracks and fell asleep due to exhaustion near Gadhe Jalgaon in the Aurangabad district, between Badnapur and Karmad stations, when a freight train stopped them. ran over. While 15 people died on the spot, one died on the way to the hospital. Another person was injured in the incident while three survived while sleeping far from the train tracks.

Nivrutti Gaikwad, collector of the resident district, Jalna, said: “None of the workers had requested travel passes at the online registration link provided by the government. Furthermore, they were not registered in our work camps. They had come in February to work for companies in Jalna, but they were not permanent employees. A contractor was taking care of them. They left Jalna without informing government agencies … An investigative committee was formed to investigate the incident. “

So far, the Jalna District Administration has granted 8,989 passes to migrants to return to their places of origin in other districts and states. It included 3,527 passes for migrants going to Uttar Pradesh, 2,278 for migrants from Bihar, 785 for migrants from Madhya Pradesh, 760 for those from Rajasthan and 300 passes for people returning to West Bengal.

Aurangabad rural jurisdiction police superintendent Mokshada Patil said: “According to our main investigation, all these people were working in a working factory in Jalna. They had decided to return home after their relatives began frantically asking them to return. As part of our investigation, we have mapped and traced their entire path from Jalna to the scene of the incident. They had covered 45 km taking various routes and decided to rest after encountering a railway line, which they had decided to take to reach Bhusawal. Having walked such a long distance, 16 of them fell asleep on the tracks. ”

Meanwhile, the four survivors in the crash – Sajjansingh Makhansingh Dhurve, Shivbhan Sinhh, Indarlal Dhurve, and Virendra Chain Singh – left for Madhya Pradesh on a train from Aurangabad on Friday night. They arrived in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.
